"Enhancing Security Measures at Lumbini to Boost Tourism"

Lumbini- In a bid to bolster tourism and ensure the safety of visitors, calls have been made for improved security management at Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.

Today, a delegation composed of officials from the Lumbini Development Trust (LDT) held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, to discuss the responsibility of security management beyond the LDT master plan area.

During the meeting, Dr. Lharkyal Lama, Vice-Chair of LDT, emphasized the need to enhance security measures outside the LDT master plan area. Dr. Lama proposed the mobilization of the Armed Police Force (APF) to address the security sensitivity of Lumbini effectively.

Dr. Lama informed the Home Minister that a previous LDT meeting had already decided to establish a permanent APF base and had forwarded the relevant documentation to the Ministry of Home Affairs. He urged the Home Minister to take additional measures to expedite the process.

Expressing his commitment to the cause, Home Minister Shrestha assured the delegation that he would initiate the establishment of a permanent base camp for the APF. He also mentioned that the Ministry would collaborate with the concerned authorities to further manage and develop the LDT.

Vice-Chair Lama expressed his expectations of cooperation from the federal government, particularly in the development of the greater Lumbini area and the successful implementation of the LDT master plan.

Dhundi Raj Bhattarai, Treasurer of LDT, shared that the security within the LDT master plan area had been managed using internal resources. Bhattarai urged the government to prioritize this important aspect in the upcoming budget.

Sanu Raja Shakya, Member-Secretary of LDT, emphasized the need to strengthen the security mechanism in the LDT due to the area's sensitive nature.

Shakya suggested assigning the APF the responsibility for security in areas beyond the LDT and advocated for the transformation of the existing temporary APF camp into a permanent base.

The discussions held today aimed to ensure that Lumbini becomes a safer and more attractive destination for tourists.

The LDT and the government are working together to address security concerns and promote the overall development of the Lumbini region.
