Kathmandu- In a celebration of mountaineering excellence and a tribute to the legendary climber Late Babuchiri Sherpa, the highly anticipated "Late Babuchiri Sherpa Memorial Open Sport Climbing Competition" is set to take place next Monday.

Organized jointly by the Mountain Sports Association and the Everest Climbers Association, this exhilarating event aims to promote adventure mountain sports on an international level.

The Mountain Sports Association, established in New York, is dedicated to fostering the spirit of adventure and mountaineering worldwide. Nwang Nima Sherpa, the President of the Mountain Sports Association, expressed his enthusiasm for the competition and highlighted the significance of honoring the late Babu Chiri Sherpa's remarkable contributions to the world of climbing.

Maya Sherpa, the President of the Everest Climbers Association, emphasized the importance of recognizing Babu Chiri Sherpa's legacy as a world-record holder climber. Babu Chiri Sherpa, who climbed Mount Everest an astounding 10 times, including four ascents from the Chinese side, left an indelible mark on the mountaineering community.

His extraordinary achievements include spending over 21 hours on the Everest summit without the use of artificial oxygen, a feat that still stands as a world record. Additionally, he achieved another milestone by climbing Mount Everest from the south side in an astonishing 16 hours and 56 minutes.

The Nepal National Mountaineering Guide Association will provide technical assistance, including route setting, judging, safety measures, and belay services for the competition. The event will feature separate categories for men and women, fostering equal participation and showcasing the incredible talent and determination of climbers from both genders.

Competitors will vie for prestigious cash prizes, with the first-place winner receiving NPR 50,000, the second-place winner receiving NPR 30,000, and the third-place winner receiving NPR 15,000.
