Banking literacy should be added to curriculum, says deputy speaker

Kathmandu- Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Rana has said that it is necessary to link financial literacy to higher secondary level education. At a financial literacy program conducted for the members of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly in collaboration with the Federal Parliament and the Rastriya Banijya Bank here on Wednesday, she said that the lack of financial literacy is making it difficult to control corruption.

Disciplined financial transactions will help prevent corruption and irregularities to some extent, she said. The participants of the program said that banks should play a role in educating the general public about the utility of loans, the effect of non-payment of loans, the correct way to send remittances, the ongoing Hundi transactions and the risks that arise from them etc. Former Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Chiranjeevi Nepal, former President of Nepal Bankers Association Bhuvan Kumar Dahal and Executive Officer of RBB Devendra Raman Khanal gave training on overall banking and finance issues.
