Third PATA Gold Award to STLRP

Kathmandu- The Sustainable Tourism Livelihood Regeneration Project (STLRP) has been honoured with the PATA Gold Award for the third time in a row. The STLRP is being implemented by Nepal Tourism Board with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Nepal for promoting community-based tourism.

The Project received the Award for creating tourism related employment and enhancing capacity in sustainable tourism by developing new tourism destinations in various 85 local levels in 58 districts across all seven provinces. The initiative was carried out in joint investment with the local government, the statement reads. The Project had bagged the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Award for 2023 and 2024 as well. Earlier, the Project got awarded in recognition of its initiatives for empowering women through tourism and for its social responsibility and sustainability. Board's Acting Executive Chief Nandini Lahe Thapa said that the Project was awarded in recognition of its significant contribution to the promotion of the tourism sector.

The Project is attributed to providing 10,000 temporary jobs in tourism sector post COVID-19 pandemic and capacity enhancement training to 4,000 people. Under the project, river guide training was imparted to women and trekking guides, said Dharma Dawadi, Acting Manager of the Project. He informed that tourism strategy has been devised in 150 local levels and national sustainable tourism club has been formed in 130 schools.
