'Role of Diaspora important for promotion of language'

Washington DC (USA)- Participants of a programme have acknowledged the important role of Nepali Diaspora in promotion of Nepali language and literature. In an interaction organized on Sunday by the International Nepali Literature Society in Maryland, USA, they reiterated that the Nepali-speaking communities living in various parts of the globe had played an important role in promoting language and literature accompanying them.

Maryland state legislator Dr Harry Bhandari asserted that the literary creations could spark political discourse. "We should create literary works according to the interest and taste of the readers so as to protect and promote Nepali languages," he observed. Dr Shyam Karki, International Board of Trustee, lauded the role of Nepali Diaspora in propagating Nepali literature in the interaction presided by Society's central working committee Chairperson Govardan Puja.

Similarly, several other speakers including Chairperson of the Society's Board of Trustee Padam Bishwakarma, Society's newly elected Chairperson Sarbagya Wagle, litterateur Tirtha Pandey and journalists Bimala Niraula and Madhukar Adhikari among others aired their views on various aspects of Nepali Diaspora. On the occasion, Dr Shyam Karki was feted with Lifetime Achievement Award while Homnath Subedi was honored with Diaspora Dhrubatara Award, it was share.
