Palpa local government recognizes same-sex marriage

Rampur (Palpa)- A same-sex marriage has been registered at Rampur Municipality of Palpa district. China Kumari Nepali, 31 and Jyoti Sarki, 36, got their marriage registered at the Municipality's Ward No. 9 Office. With this their same-sex marriage has been legally recognized. Rampur-9 Local Civil Registration Officer and Ward Secretary, Md Yunus Khan said the marriage registration certificate has been issued in Nepali and Sarki's name in accordance with a circular of the Department of National ID and Civil Registration, acting on an application submitted at the Ward Office by Nepali and Sarki.

The Ward Secretary Khan said that the marriage certificate was issued on Sunday through coordination with the Department as it was the first time the same-sec marriage was registered in the district. Nepali, a resident of Jabgadi, Rampur-9 and Sarki, a resident of Mithukram, Baudikali Rural Municipality-1, Nawalpur, had tied the knot at the Siddhababa Temple in Palpa on October 15, 2021, in accordance with the prevailing customs.
