Nhyuha Pokhari in Lalitpur awaits preservation and promotion

Lalitpur- Although the Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) in Lalitpur district has taken initiatives to reconstruct and preserve historical heritages within the Metropolis, some heritages are still awaiting preservation and promotion. Nhyuha Pokhari (Nhyuha Pond) in LMC-5 is one among them.

The locals and people's representatives had conducted a clean-up campaign in the Pond following the local level election in 2074 BS. A master plan was put in place in 2076 BS to protect the Pond but its progress has been stalled due to budget constraints, according to LMC-5 ward chair Bikashman Shrestha. Acknowledging the concern towards the Pond, Shrestha admitted, "We have initiated conservation works on this historic pond. Although we are making some progress, technical issue has delayed the conservation bid." The Pond would contribute to the beauty of Lagankhel provided it is preserved, beautified and promoted, opined Rajbhai Deula, a local resident.

"We used to swim in the pond in our childhood. The pond dried up for a long time," he recalled, adding that the water has been filled up in the pond recently. He, however, expressed his concern towards pond's preservation and said that the LMC should urgently pay attention towards preservation of the pond. Much to the dismay of local residents, the water in the pond is contaminated and mostly covered by unwanted grasses although it is enclosed by a fence.
