Constitution can be amended keeping spirit of proportional inclusion intact

Bagamati- Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has spoken of the need to keep the spirit of proportional inclusion intact while proceeding with the Constitution's amendment. Addressing a programme organised by Jaya Nepal Foundation in Hetauda of Makwanpur on Saturday, he pressed an idea for constitutional amendments that ensure proportional representation through a direct electoral system.

"The Constitution can be amended by ensuring the 33 percent participation of women and the proportional representation of other communities through the direct electoral system. If this happens, it will contribute to developing leadership among the target community to fight in the direct election," he said He also took time to say that the party had, accepting challenges, formed a coalition government with the CPN-UML. "Despite being the third largest party in the parliament, we accepted the Maoist party's leadership in the government, but the stability remained elusive. We are clear that the NC, UML coalition is not without challenges."

It is a time to deconstruct a narrative that nothing is possible in Nepal, he said adding that now remote parts of Nepal have access to road connectivity which was almost beyond imagination until a few years back. NC Bagamati Province President and Bagamati Province Assembly member Indra Bahadur Baniya urged the three-tier governments to deliver in a way of bringing transformation in the lives of citizens. Foundation President Bhupendra Koirala presided over the programme.
