Kalinga literature festival kicks off

Kathmandu- A two-day Kathmandu-Kalinga literature festival has kicked off for the promotion of Nepali language, literature and culture. Inaugurating the programme hosted in coordination with the Yashaswi Academy, Chancellor of the Nepal Academy Bhupal Rai said cultural and literary festivals connect the globe so such events should be organized every year. According to him, it would be easier to establish global connectivity through cultural inter-linkages. Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy Prasanna Srivastava said such festivals would establish relations as several Nepalis visit pilgrimage sites of India where Indians also come Nepal to visit cultural heritages like Pashupatinath, Ramjanaki Temple and Lumbini.

He also said that Nepali, Newari and Maithili languages of Nepal are well familiar in world literature. Litterateur Bhuwan Dhungana said the festival would help in taking forward the relations between Nepal and India in a long-term manner. Indian literary writer Laxmi Murdheshwar Puri said Nepali language is also the official language of India and Shakti Bhumi Nepal can be established as a cultural center. On the occasion, Chairperson of the Academy Ranjana Niraula said that the festival would contribute in keeping writers, readers and artists of the two countries together. Around 300 people from both the countries are participating in the festival to be held on Sunday after holding discussions in different groups.
